Same Episode Playing in Daily Timeslot

Apologies for the multiple posts, but thanks for everyone's help. I’m running into an issue where the exact same episode keeps playing in the same timeslot. For example, I have this schedule:

Mon–Fri 9:00am – Hogan’s Heroes

I’ve organized shows into collections based on day and time — so Hogan’s Heroes is in a collection called "Mon-Fri-9:00am" — and I’ve set up individual daily schedules (Monday, Tuesday, etc.), each set to play that collection at 9:00am. I’ve also added each day as an Alternate Schedule in Playouts.

On Thursday, it correctly played S1E1 – "The Informer," but on Friday it played the exact same episode again. When I checked the Playout Detail on Thursday, it showed episode 2 was supposed to air Friday, but by Friday morning it had reverted back to episode 1.

I also tried setting up a continuous Mon–Fri 9:00am–7:00pm block with the same shows during the day and unique primetime schedules for each night until 10:30pm, when it would switch back to a Mon–Fri late-night block — but that created new problems, with the primetime schedules not playing at all.

So now I’ve broken it out into full-day schedules for each day, hoping that would work better… but I’m still seeing the repeated episode issue.

progrocktv I think this would only happen if you set the playout to automatically reset on some schedule. What do you see when you click the Schedule Reset button on the playout row in the playouts table?

jason Ah! It was set to reset every night at Midnight, changed it back to "Do not automatically reset". Looks like I didn't read the setting close enough and misread it for some sort of an "Automatically Reset Playout" setting, but I see how it resets the entire schedule. Thanks for the clarification.

progrocktv It does reset the playout - I think the missing piece is that resetting the playout includes erasing all history (for the one playout).

By default, ETV automatically extends playouts by 1 hour every hour, after the initial build. Smart collections are also re-evaluated every time playouts are extended so they continue to have accurate items over time.

Generally, people only schedule a playout reset when they have collections that change daily, and they want e.g. the most recent episode to always play every day. We can't schedule tomorrow's episode if it doesn't exist yet, so we have to reset the playout. For almost all other use cases, the default behavior is desired.
